What is it about golf that makes a woman golfer, or any golfer for that matter, chase a little ball around, trying to hit it with a selection of thin ’sticks with a bulb on their end’ for about 7 kilometers, sometimes 14 kilometers, without stopping except for the ‘halfway house’… even in the rain and cold?

Is it the exercise … or … the challenge … or … the sounds and smell of nature … or … even in some cases walking amongst wild animals and birds … or … a walk on the best manicured real estate in the world – even countries full of pot-holes in their roads will make sure their golf courses are immaculate?

You’ll have days when everything goes right … where the golf ball will skim over the water-hole and land next to the pin … or hit a tree when it’s going out-of-bounds and land back on the fairway. Then there are those days when you’ll hack your way around the course … cussing and wondering why on earth you ever took up with this stupid game called golf! Yet, no matter how you have played, you stand on the 18th tee-box and you know that you will be coming back for more!

In golf, you’re always playing yourself – even if you have a partner. What’s more, it doesn’t matter how many rounds you play on the same golf course … you’re seldom in the same spot ever again.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re short or tall, petite or ‘heavier’, young or ‘mature of age’ , right or left handed, to play this game you will all need women’s golf clubs, golf balls, comfortable women’s golf apparel, womens golf shoes and golf accessories and of course, it’s a lot more fun playing with a companion or two.

Golf is one of the sports in which good and thorough coaching is essential. As a beginner, we all experienced the ball ‘ducking’ when we tried to hit it … so find a coach to give you a few basic golf lessons to get started down the fairway correctly!

By learning in a group of 3 or 4, you’ll have the advantage of watching everyone else having the same difficulties and you’ll also have some golf buddies to play with.

Throughout your golfing life, you’ll want to lower your handicap … you’ll continually want to fine-tune your golf game and make sure you don’t groove any ‘bad habits’. You’ll be able to achieve these goals with practice and good advice from your golf professional. But be smart … do some research on the professional first … because it’s not advisable to change your coach too often otherwise confusion reigns.

With so many different variations of competitions, golf is never boring. It brings out the best and worst in a player, particularly in match-play when you play in women’s golf leagues. It’s a great leveler in knocking you off your pedestal, but when you score that hole-in-one, there is no feeling on earth that comes close to your euphoria – believe me, I’ve done it!

Golf is one of the most social and enjoyable games you’ll ever play anywhere in the world. You will make lots of very different friends, in many foreign places. Whatever the reason for playing it, when you get to the 19th hole, you will always have company with the same interest … golf!
