Golf Tips – Practice One-Arm Swings

by David Leadbetter

The right side plays a major role in the golf swing. To get a good feel for this, take practice swings and even hit golf balls with just the right arm – if you’re right-handed or with the left arm if you’re left-handed.

Start with a 9-iron off a tee and after just a few swings, you’ll be amazed at the good feelings you begin to sense.

You’ll quickly see how important a role the right (or left) side has in your golf swing.

Golf Tips – How Ben Crenshaw Putts

by Harvey Penick

I like to see a player putt the ball off the center of the putter – not back towards the golf putter’s toe.

The golf putter should be flat on the ground. Any grip that is comfortable or reasonably orthodox is all right. I don’t care much for a lot of wrists in putting.

An exercise that helps is to face the wall, put the top of your head against it and then stroke with the golf putter along the baseboard or skirting. This will help you feel swing path.

Golf Tips – Handle Trouble Like A Golf Pro

by David Leadbetter

When your golf ball lands in knee-high rough, keep your left hand firm to lead your golf clubhead. This prevents the tall grass from closing your clubface – which would smother your golf ball and don’t forget to keep your head down!

This will make sure you get out of trouble.

Golf Tips – Commit To Your Driver

by John Daly

I’ve never been the type of guy to stand over a golf ball and think about what I’m supposed to do.

I just see that little white golf ball and try to hit it as hard as I can

When the shot does call for a golf driver, my advice is, never hold back. Grip it and rip it!

Golf Tip - How To Make An Easy Shoulder Turn

by Tom Watson

When Hal Sutton walks the golf course, you’ll see that his right arm often dangles at his side. Hal says he carries it that way to remind himself that he must relax his right arm to facilitate his turn away from the ball.

A soft right side keeps the left side in control of the turn, like it should be.

Golf Tips – Use The Whole Tee Box

by David Leadbetter
Teeing it up with the tee marker between you and your golf ball, is perfectly legal – as long as you’re not playing your golf shot from in front of the tee markers. This allows you to use the full width of the tee box which is important when you want to broaden your “aiming area”.
This tactic allows you to aim away from trouble.

Golf Tips – How To Test New Golf Ball Brands

by Tom Watson
A lot of  new golf ball brands are on the market. How can you tell which one is best for your game?
I like to test one new brand at a time against the one I’m using. I suggest you test balls with a 9-iron, 5-iron and the club you use off the tee – a 3-wood or driver.

Golf Tips - Master Short Bunker Shots

by Tiger Woods

One of my weaknesses when I came out on tour was my bunker play, especially to short-side pins.

To improve, I weakened my left-hand grip. This lets me use my right hand aggressively. I can cock the club quickly, get the clubface more open and throw my right hand at the ball.

Putt Like A Pro

With Two Simple And Effective Putting Drills

Good putting is the best and quickest way to lower your scores and quickly reduce your handicap. Yet, too many of us golfers spend most of our practice sessions on the driving range looking for that perfect shot.

Many times I visit the practice tee and see the range is full and the putting green is empty! Little consideration is given to this crucial part of the game.

In this tip, I explain two simple drills that are guaranteed to make you hole more putts.

  1. Keep the ‘V’

At address, your arms form an automotive V – shoulders being the wide end and your hands being the point.

During the backstroke and through stroke, maintain the ‘V’ shape. By maintaining the ‘V’ shape throughout the
stroke, your wrist and hand movements allow you to stroke the putt with a pendulum action.

2.  Same distance back and same distance through

Place the ball in your usual putting position. Next place two tees in the ground that are equidistant from the ball,
behind your ball and away from your stroke. The length between the tees varies according to the length of the
putt you’re practicing.
